Platinum-awarded producer, engineer and songwriting duo Wayward present an ambient reprise of their Anjunadeep Explorations single ‘Semaphore’. Reimagining the original through a cinematic, strings-led lens, the pair collaborated with rising string player and arranger Maxim Lavrov.
“We met Maxim from working on other projects but he's become our first port of call when it comes to adding that extra layer of drama and gloss to our tracks. Listening to the string parts he had recorded for the original track, alongside the existing vocals we had recorded, it just felt like a new beauty and contemplative energy had been unlocked that we really wanted to pull into focus.” says Wayward.
Over the past few years, the London-based Wayward have cemented their reputation as one of the UK’s most versatile and in-demand production duos, with credits including Eliza Rose, Park Hye Jin, The Martinez Brothers, Shanti Celeste, Catching Flies and Calibre, alongside remix work for Basement Jaxx and remixes by Folamour and Tim Eaper. Their work has received widespread support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, KCRW and NTS.
Replacing club-forward rhythms with orchestration and delicate textures, ‘Semaphore (Ambient Reprise)’ reveals a deeper side to Wayward’s songwriting. The result is a slow-burning, emotive piece that blurs the lines between electronic composition and modern classical arrangement.
Wayward ‘Semaphore (Ambient Reprise)’ is out now on Anjunachill.
