Place To Be / Modwonk

John Monkman returns to Anjunadeep with ‘Place To Be’ featuring Tailor and ‘Modwonk’.

A mainstay of the label, John first released on Anjunadeep over 10 years ago with his 2014 track ‘Open Frontier’ that featured on Anjunadeep 06. Since then he has released his ‘Komplex EP’, remixed Eli & Fur, and appeared on numerous compilations such as Anjunadeep 14 and 15, and Reflections 09.

In his own words, ‘Place To Be’ “first came to life after playing Printworks for one of Anjunadeep’s events. The energy of the night was deeply inspiring - I went home and started working on the strings, which for me, captured the essence of that experience…fast forward to last summer in Ibiza, I got a message from Rob (Tailor) asking if he could drop by the studio. We met, instantly hit it off…and before long Rob sent back a vocal that completely blew me away”. The record features two versions of ‘Place To Be’, the original and string mix; the former being more club friendly and the latter still showcasing the emotive strings that John wrote after his set at Printworks.

‘Modwonk’ is John’s take on melodic progressive house mixed with a hint of U.K. bass music, a completely unique track that, as John tells us, “came out of nowhere - the kind [of track] that happens when you should be doing something else but end up opening a new project instead”.
