Mark Barrott releases his new leftfield ambient single ‘Variation (vi)’, from his upcoming album The Exit Diaries.

Across a career spanning nearly four decades, Mark Barrott has continually reshaped his sound - from early breakbeat experiments to introspective downtempo and the sun-soaked Balearic textures of his Sketches From An Island series, released via his International Feel label. Alongside his solo work, he has collaborated with artists including Themba and Virgil Abloh, while his Anjunachill releases - from ‘Jōhatsu’ to 'Everything Changes, Nothing Ends' - have marked a particularly rich creative period. His work has earned enduring support from BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 3 and KEXP, alongside coverage from Pitchfork, MOJO, Uncut and Resident Advisor. In 2025, Pitchfork described Barrott as a “master of sunset music”, while The Guardian praised him for “flying the flag for the original Ibizan chillout spirit,” cementing his place as a defining voice in contemporary chillout and downtempo.

Following up from previous singles ‘When Devils Became Gods’ and ‘Land’, ‘Variation (vi)’ is a soft, contemplative ambient track with touches of nu-jazz, wind instrumentation and ethereal choral vocals, representing the breadth of sounds found across 'The Exit Diaries’ in one song.

‘Variation (vi)' is out now on Anjunachill.
