Potential EP

Glaswegian producer Turtle returns to Anjunachill with his new three-track EP, ‘Potential’.

Rooted in a lifelong fascination with sound and a desire to connect through music, Jon Cooper - aka Turtle - began his production journey in the vibrant electronic underground of late-‘90s and early-2000s Glasgow. Despite no formal musical training and an inability to read sheet music, Jon developed a deeply intuitive style shaped by his surroundings and a passion for sonic experimentation. Over time, his sound has evolved beyond the confines of club music into something more fluid, cinematic, and emotionally resonant. His distinct approach caught the attention of acclaimed documentary filmmaker Fernando Villena, leading to scoring work on award-winning films including Any One of Us, Dear Rider, and The Alpinist. These projects offered Jon the freedom to fully explore his ability to create immersive, emotionally rich soundscapes that elevate the visual narrative.

Turtle made his Anjunachill debut in 2023 with the atmospheric ‘Acts of Union’ EP. He returns now with ‘Potential’, a three-track release featuring ‘Wild Pines’, ‘Potential’ and ‘Kilchrenan’. The EP weaves together layers of live instrumentation, ethereal textures, and cinematic elements, with the title track offering a nod to indie-electronica.

“The EP was born out of experimenting with guitar, synth, and vocals. I spent a lot of time processing the recordings - resampling, stretching, repitching, and using granular techniques to transform the loops into something new. The goal was to strike a balance between instinctive, improvised performance and carefully crafted production and mix choices. The project also features live saxophone from Max Franco, adding another layer of texture to the sound.”
