Wistful Affection For A Period In The Past

Cornelius SA makes his Anjunachill debut with his latest collaboration with Andrew Long, ‘Wistful Affection For A Period In The Past’.

A South African electronic producer known for his distinctive fusion of deep house, melodic techno, and Afro rhythms, Cornelius SA broke through in 2015 with ‘Falling Again’ and the Ambition EP. Since then, he’s released on celebrated labels including Armada, Dopewax, Get Physical, Mau5trap, This Never Happened, Monstercat Silk, Zamna, and Sony Music Africa.

He’s received support from influential artists like Above & Beyond, Eelke Kleijn, Chicane, and Maxim Lany, and his remix work spans both international and South African talent. In 2018, his Get Physical release earned three Dance Music Awards SA nominations. His track ‘Diamonds’ was featured on Music Week's Cool Cuts chart and BBC Radio 1, and he has also been named one of 1001 Tracklists’ ‘Top 100 Producers’.

Cornelius SA joined the Anjuna family with ‘Silhouette’, his collaboration with Sebee which was released on 2021’s ‘Anjunadeep Explorations 18’, followed by ‘Soaring’ on Anjunadeep 13, which later formed part of his ‘Solitude EP’.

On ‘Wistful Affection For A Period In The Past’, Cornelius SA trades his usual club-ready sound for a more delicate, downtempo mood. “When Andrew sent me the piano progression, it instantly took me back to a sentimental time,” he says. “It reminded me of my childhood - coming home to my favourite meal, playing video games with my little brother.” The track blends gentle piano with subtle textures sitting somewhere between neo-classical and electronica.
