Marking the ninth instalment of Reflections’ emerging artists series, ‘Reflections 09’ sees the debut of six brand new artists to the label.
Opening the EP is esteemed London-based producer John Monkman, who presents his haunting, electronic downtempo production ’Shadows Falling (Asriel Mix)’, first heard on Anjunadeep last year. Followed by South Korean producer Dae Kim with his gentle composition ‘A Sense of Longing’, which intertwines synthesisers, guitar loops and vocal layers, submerging the listener in a warm, ambient soundscape.
Exploring his ambient roots through field recordings, Scottish producer Stillhead, who featured on the earliest markings of the Reflections’ label via 'Anjunadeep presents Reflections Vol. 3’, now presents his new production ‘Chime’ to Reflections, a dark, brooding piece inspired by the sounds he recorded in Greenland.
Classically trained composer and pianist Laurel Violet delivers her stunning single ‘How To Forget’, a soft and steady composition of piano and strings, cradled by a gentle beat throughout. Next up, James Bright presents the penultimate track with a quirky and uplifting production, having immersed himself in the world of modular synthesis on his track ‘Absorb’, inspired by the creative freedom of working with rich sounds and textures.
Alex Rusin rounds off the EP with a sentimental mix of his track ‘Persevere’, originally born as a soundtrack to his own trials and tribulations. This calming rendition ‘Persevere (An Evening With Wife’s Piano Playing)' was created as a happy accident, with his wife improvising the piano line over the original synths and melodies, later refined with layers of strings and piano instrumentation.
